The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Saad-Eddine El Othmani , said that overcoming the difficulties that impede the rapprochement with Algeria is "absolute priority" for Morocco, adding that his visit to the country "shows the importance of developing relations with the brothers in Algeria. "
El Othmani said in an interview, the Algerian side to have sensed "a willingness to develop new relationships," noting that the two sides agreed to undertake further steps in coming months.
The minister said that his visit to Algeria "has not intervened to resolve outstanding issues and complex dating from long time," but within that there is "a common will" improve these relations in some areas and folders .
"Complex cases can be resolved quickly, it requires more time," he argued, saying that his meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika , which he described as "serious and positive," focused on "Relations between the two countries and the need for further sectoral cooperation that began in 2011 while maintaining contact to overcome barriers that affect bilateral relations."
He said he discussed with Algerian President "issues of borders and the Sahara , "noting that Bouteflika "has the will to approach things in a new way to move forward."
El Othmani said he had discussed during his meeting with Algerian President, the political reforms undertaken by Morocco, the Arab Spring , experiences Tunisian, Libyan and Egyptian and Syrian folder, adding that both countries have agreed to Following his visit to Algeria, to develop bilateral cooperation and revive the Arab Maghreb Union.
During his visit to Algeria, El Othmani held talks with his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci on bilateral relations and boosting cooperation in the Maghreb.
The two ministers discussed several proposals, including the diversification of areas of cooperation and its evaluation in terms of sectors that have been meetings between the two countries like those of energy, agriculture and youth .
The two sides agreed to the holding in 2012 of the High Joint Committee between the two countries as they proposed to encourage meetings between businessmen, companies , parliamentarians, actors civil society to build bridges strong to promote cooperation and exchange of experiences and expertise.
Regarding mechanisms of cooperation, both sides agreed to hold a meeting every six months at the level of Ministers for Foreign Affairs to assess the achievements of all that was agreed and implement new programs.
At the Maghreb, the two sides agreed to further cooperation and dialogue to overcome the stagnation facing the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) and to revitalize its institutions.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation has also met with Abdelaziz Belkhadem, State Minister, Personal Representative of Algerian President during which they discussed relations between Morocco and Algeria, in their various forms, and discussed the issues currently being faced.
